Tabata Exercise Ideas? What’s a Tabata? I was thinking the same thing myself. Tabata is a method of High Intensity Interval Training. This method was created in 1996 and uses a 20 seconds on 10 seconds rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 sets). Tabata training is a very intense form of interval training and that is what makes it effective.

Tabata training is a lot harder then traditional cardio training and is at such a high intensity that beginners should start slower, with less intensity and try to start with 2 minutes rather then 4.

The best way to use tabata exercises is by picking intense total body exercises like lunges, pushups, burpees, squats and pullups. Tricep kickbacks or deltoid raises aren’t going to cut it. Many Bootcamp trainers that are struggling to find bootcamp exercise ideas will use tabata’s in their bootcamp workouts and throw them sporadically into the workout while pairing two exercises together in their tabatas. This provides a variety in the workout and can give you a better full body workout if you use two opposite exercises like push-ups and squats.
